I have been writing, probably not as much as I should, but I definitely still push myself to write. However I haven't been posting most of my work because simply they're aren't finished. Now, I'm no perfectionist who sets high aims for his art, but I do have a craftsmen care for my work. Rather than pumping out stories to meet some self-set arbitrary goal, I seek to achieve a certain quality with my work. Now, quality itself is a difficult term to describe, but for me I know when the story is complete when it reflects to me the desired emotion I wanted from it.
I'm sure its no secret that I'm a huge Bill Hicks fan. One of my favorite quotes of his is "Play from your fucking heart," and thats how I like to write. I want the story not just be interesting, but written in a way that people can feel that it contains a piece of my soul. While much a story may in fact have that quality, it will undoubtedly contain rushed parts as I get to a point where I can't pour more heart into it and just want it over. Instead of posting such a story, I shelve it, give it time, go back remove those rushed parts, and then write from my heart.
Its seems that I can write such a story, every three months, some of which you'd have to venture into Luxuria to read. My orginal goal this year was a short story a month, and a novel a year. I realize now what it would take for me to ever produce that much with my expectations of quality. Instead, perhaps I'll work on a drabble a month, a short story every three, and a novel well...perhaps I'm not the novel sort of writer.
Oh yes and the site still looks nothing like I'd like it to be. Perhaps some day when I have more time.
